Shirley's Kitchen Cabinet Programs Development VISTA

 This program will help women who currently struggle with poverty to
organize their communities and illuminate pathways out of the vicious cycle.
The Americorps VISTA assignment is for one year.

This is an Americorps position.

Assignment Objectives and Member Activities

Goal of the Project: The “Step In - From Activism to Advocacy” program uses a three
pronged approach to recruit, train and develop leaders from where they are. Utilizing a
relational volunteer organizing model this program relies on hosting house parties to
introduce issues such as: civic engagement & health. The VISTA will develop the
backbone of the volunteer organizing, management and communication systems. The
program's success hinges on strategic targeting of Black women who are immigrants,
low-middle income bracket, un or underemployed without healthcare, and rely on public
assistance. This program will help women who currently struggle with poverty to
organize their communities and illuminate pathways out of the vicious cycle.

Objective of the Assignment (Period of Performance: Months 1-5) With the guidance of organization leadership the VISTA will develop a funnel for recruiting, onboarding and retaining members. The VISTA will also assist in membership program launch. Member Activity: Step 1: Familiarize self with Shirley's Kitchen Cabinet's current Membership Model and research other membership models of similar non-profits Step 2: Design template for Membership Programming processes including but not limited to application, selection, workshop planning, registration, and evaluations Step 3: Create plan for Membership Program Launch and recruit volunteers to assist with development, planning and event. 

Objective of the Assignment (Period of Performance: Months 6-8) With the guidance of organization leadership the VISTA will write content for a regular e-newsletter, and a digital content series that is Shirley’s KC branded (FB live series, Youtube series or Instagram Reel series). Member Activity: Step 1: Assessment of current communications systems Step 2: Develop and maintain regular member and outside stakeholder communication including a regular e-newsletter and social media channels Step 3:Develop regular digital content series to keep members and supporters informed and educated on key issues


Objective of the Assignment (Period of Performance: Months 9-12)
With the guidance of organization leadership the VISTA will maintain membership database, identify
areas, organizations and segments of the community to recruit members, establish and maintain a partner
organization list. The VISTA will also work with data vendor to collect data regarding Black women and
advocacy and will create a report for internal and external stakeholders.
Member Activity: Step 1: Identify potential supporter pockets Step 2: Initiate and develop
relationships with potential partner organizations Step 3: Identify through surveying, focus groups and
other data collection strategies, the key issues, topline messages and policy areas of interest to Black
women in the region
