Youth Program Support- Duluth Edison Schools

Position Summary
As a Youth Development AmeriCorps Member with True North AmeriCorps, you will help schools and community-based programs respond to unmet needs of their students. Service could include several tasks such as check ins, social emotional skill building, enrichment programming, and more.
You can serve in a part time (14-25 hours per week) or full-time capacity (35 hours per week) beginning August 16, 2021 with rolling enrollment dates, and ending in June or August of 2022.
This is an AmeriCorps service position. AmeriCorps members come from a wide variety of backgrounds and interests- we celebrate diversity and encourage all who are interested to apply!
About the Site: Duluth Edison Charter Schools- Raleigh
Location: 5905 Raleigh St. Duluth MN 55807
Position Size:  35 hours/week
Schedule: M-F including approx. 7:30-3pm
Description
Established in 1997, Duluth Edison Charter Schools (DECS) is known for its commitment to personal and academic growth, as well as it’s adherence to values, innovation and progressive learning.  Raleigh Academy, located in the heart of the West Duluth community, serves about 220 students in grades K-5.
 
DECS offers specialized and extracurricular programs designed to meet diverse student needs including outdoor education, STEAM activities, play-based learning, athletics and clubs, as well as academic and social/behavior interventions, special education services, and English Language Learner programming.  Key components of the DECS culture include a freedom to experiment and a freedom to fail approach to innovation, a supportive and solution-based mentality and a belief system that we are always doing something special. The AmeriCorps member will be integrated within the school community, serving in the classroom and through individual and small group sessions as determined by student needs.

What It Takes
Great members are those with the desire to help our communities and our kids. Come as you are, we’ll provide the training you need! That said, you will need to meet the following minimum qualifications by the time you begin your service:
  • 18 years of age or older by your start date.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent by your start date.
  • Must be either a citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States.
  • Able to pass the pre-service background check process.
  • Prior offenses may not be an automatic disqualification.
Preferred qualifications include:
  • Training or education in education, social work, human services, recreation, mental health, trauma-informed care, healing-centered care, social emotional learning
  • Demonstrates strong self-awareness and acceptance of cultural differences
