Grant Writing Volunteer
Your Purpose and Impact:
Most Minnesota food shelves are volunteer run and don't have the capacity to secure grant funding. That's where you come in! There are many grants available to support food shelves in serving their communities. This volunteer position ensures food shelves are equipped to apply for these opportunities by prospecting grants and creating a grant template.
When matched to a food shelf you will be responsible for:
- Gathering organizational information to guide in funding prospect research and development of a grant template
- Creating and proposing a grant calendar
- Crafting a grant template based on food shelf information
- Reviewing grant calendar and grant template with the food shelf contact
- Writing specific grants as requested by the food shelf
- Supporting grant reports at conclusion of granting period, as needed
Skills you’ll need to be successful:
- Excellent written communication skills
- Experience writing grants is preferred, but not necessary
- Ability to work quickly and take initiative to meet project goal

Time Commitment and Logistics:
- Total Time Requirement: 1-3 hours for grant calendar research, 1-3 hours for grant template and 1 hour optional volunteer connection event once a month.
- Schedule: Some daytime availability might be required depending on the food shelf contact’s schedule
- Technology: Must have access to a computer for grant researching, writing, and communication with food shelf contacts
- Work Site: Remote
