HandsOn VISTA - City of Phoenix Mayor's Office

 Join the Mayor's Office of the 5th largest city in the U.S. to work in collaboration with City departments and community organizations to improve education and workforce development programs! The successful applicant will work alongside their site manager (a former VISTA member) to foster awareness of and participation in the Mayor’s Birthday Book Club literacy program, help grow the My Brother’s Keeper initiative, and expand the Opportunity Youth program. The future member should be comfortable in a highly professional setting with strong skills in: writing, customer service, organization, and self-motivation; along with the ability to be solutions-oriented in context of limited resources and competing priorities. Preferred but not required: Spanish proficiency; knowledge of, or experience working in, underserved Phoenix communities; experience in program coordination or management. 

 VISTA's who move over 50 miles qualify for a relocation allowance as well as a settling in allowance. All of our VISTA's receive a modest taxable living allowance of about $1,100/month (before taxes), federal loans qualify for forbearance. After the completion of one's year of service, they also qualify for an educational award valued at about $6,300, which can be used towards federal loans, or further education.
